The Origin: God speaks of Him putting on the Helmet of Salvation Isaiah 59:17
He put on righteousness as his breastplate, and the helmet of salvation on his head; he put on the garments of vengeance and wrapped himself in zeal as in a cloak.

This uses the figure of speech Anthropopatheia. "This is very frequent in Scriptures, when it speaks of God after the manner of men, and by bodily things sets forth the divine excellencies of the spiritual and eternal being" Bullinger. -
Put on the whole armour of God Ephesians 6:17
Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

Putting on the Hope of Salvation 1 Thessalonians 5:8
But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet.
