Everyone has a need to feel secure - from the baby in its mother’s arms, to when we grow up, and seek to safeguard our relationships, our health, jobs, property, and our money. But this isn’t easy, and all too often, perhaps, it’s someone we trust who lets us down.
The Bible says: “Put not your trust in princes, or in the son of man, in whom there is no help. His breath goes forth, he returns to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish.” This may seem a depressing statement, but what good advice it is! Even if people are 100% trustworthy, they can only be relied upon as long as they remain alive: once they’re dead their promises and plans are worthless. The Bible goes on to say: “Happy is he that has the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the Lord his God: who made heaven and earth, the sea and all that is therein, who keeps truth for ever.”
Keeping truth means remaining faithful. So we can rely on God, to do what He has promised. The security which God offers lasts forever. This may not mean freedom from life’s problems, but it does mean that if you come to have complete trust in God then you will find the best security in the world. We can have security in His love and His promise of eternal life on this earth, provided we believe in Him and obey His commandments.
