When we make a New Year resolution, few of us can keep it up for long. It’s human nature. It’s maddening! Most of us just leave it at that, perhaps hoping we shall be able to do better next time.
But there’s one resolution which will help you to keep all the other good resolutions. That’s if you say, “I’ll set aside a few minutes every day to listen to the voice of God in the Bible. I’ll follow the example of a young man of Bible times who from his childhood had known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to give him the wisdom that leads to salvation, through faith in Jesus Christ.”
This is really no problem: thousands of people follow a simple plan, and learn, with growing excitement, what God has in store for the world. And they come to know for themselves that, as the Bible says, All Scripture comes from God, and is profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be fully grown, equipped for every good work.
All you need is a Bible - you might find one of the modern language versions easy to read - and a timetable to help you to stick to a regular plan. And above all, a word of prayer on your lips.
Then, before you know where you are, you could find yourself saying, as someone else did when he began to realise how marvellous the Bible really is:
“O Lord God, what is to hinder me from walking in Your ways?”
And you’ll live to bless the day when you, also, began to discover the wonders contained in God’s Word.
