Are We People of Prayer Like Daniel?

"All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work" 2 Timothy 3:16-17

The Holy Scriptures that we read needs to change us - our thoughts and behaviour. Daniel's life, like the Messiah who was to come many years later, was underpinned by prayer even in time of trouble:

"Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime." Daniel 6:10

Daniel made his prayer to God

  1. regular conversation (Daniel 6:10)
  2. he read, reflect and understood God's message to us (Daniel 9:2)
  3. acknowledges God's status "O Lord, the great and dreadful God, keeping the covenant and mercy to them that love him, and to them that keep his commandments" (Daniel 9:4)
  4. made confession of own and the people's failings - "we have sinned, and have committed iniquity, and have done wickedly, and have rebelled..." (Daniel 9:5-6)
  5. acknowledges God's righteousness... mercies and forgivenesses and hope for believers that return to Him (Daniel 9:7,9)
  6. asks that God "hears the prayer of thy servant, and his supplications, and cause thy face to shine upon thy sanctuary that is desolate, for the Lord's sake" (Daniel 9:17)
